Cafe XXII

No idea about where to go for brunch? You might want to give Cafe XXII a try!

Located at Pyrmont, Cafe XXII is popular for its brunch menu, although they are also open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, it is only open from Wednesday to Sunday for dinner. Cafe XXII is a sandstone cottage that gives you a feel of Mediterranean culture. This place is located exactly behind Star City, so it is very easy to spot. The price range for its brunch menu is mostly below $20, showing that Cafe XXII is not very expensive compared to other brunch places in average.

These are some of the brunch menus that it offers:

SSAM Korean BBQ

reference: http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Restaurant_Review-g255060-d949103-Reviews-SSAM_Korean_BBQ-Sydney_New_South_Wales.htmlIn SSAM Korean BBQ, it is really fun to cook your own food on the grill. We had the bulgogi and some pork. All the lettuce and pickles we could get through. The food that is offered here is very tasty. However, the side dish of pancake was not as good as I've had at other Korean places (outside of Sydney).

We had a couple of beers and we came out having spent under $60. It is not very expensive in terms of price-wise and we will definitely be going back.

Kamikaze Japanese Teppanyaki Restaurant

Kamikaze Japanese Teppanyaki  restaurant is located at darling harbour. Teppanyaki refers to dishes cooked using an iron plate, these restaurants are a unique experience, not like a traditional restaurant. If you want entertainment at dinner Kamikaze Teppanyaki is the place to go.  The cooks are highly trained to keep customers entertained, they perform tricks while cooking in front of you. One of the many tricks that cook perform is egg catching. They make the customer hold a bowl while the cook using is Japanese flat iron knife flicks the egg trying to land the egg in the bowl. If the egg doesn’t make the bowl then the customer ends up wearing it.
One of the tricks to keep the customer entertained

The Teppanyaki restaurant has dinner sets to choose from , all meals are served Teppan vegetables, steamed rice, kamikaze salad, miso soup. The customer gets a choice of the meat or seafood for mains. There is wide variety of seafood from prawns to octopus, and for meat all the traditional meat are available from chicken to beef.

The staff were very friendly including the cook. The customer service was at another level from other restaurants that I have been to. The waiters were frequently serving drinks and making sure that everything was alright and assisting as much as they could while cleaning the mess from all the tricks.

If you want an entertaining night especially if you have kids, this restaurant will be an experience for the whole family.

Malabar South Indian Restaurant

Malabar restaurant located at Crows Nest, known for its South Indian Cuisine food.  Normally when people think of Indian restaurant they think of the traditional North Indian food, butter chicken, Lamb Kofta and Nann bread.

The restaurant on busy night

Last Wednesday at lunch time I had the opportunity to eat this restaurant. The traditional south Indian food being dosa (look at picture below) served with Sambar(lentil broth) is what Malabar house specialty.

The dosa is thin, crisp, golden brown  rice and lentil pancake.

Malabar offer a range of flavors from plain dosa to Chicken dosa, where chicken pieces are stuffed inside the pancake.  The restaurant does offer North Indian food, curries. During lunch times they have a Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian special. In the vegetarian Special the entree consist of mini dosa  and the mains are eggplant  and potato, mixed vegetable curry  with dal and rice. The non vegetarian special, the entree being the same as the vegetarian special.  The main course consists of lamb varutha, butter chicken, mixed vegetable and rice.

I would recommend one tries the lunch special as mini dosa is served as an entree. This would allow one to taste a dosa which is not found in many Indian restaurant due to dosa being south Indian food.
